The twitter move to deliver coupons has been along time coming. Where do you think that in America that a platform with so many users existing would not use this for commercial use. I know many people who try to use twitter to promote business when it should be used to promote your activities and let the following begin based on your "exciting life" now we get pop up. Hooray for Capitalism.

Great post, thanks for the overview. This is good stuff. One thing strikes me as odd, though: Do local advertisers really need more data to calculate ROI?

This is just a gut feeling, but it seems like too much analysis in such comparably small numbers would create a fair bit of overhead, and consume time and money that should be spend in producing the ads or, well, doing business. Imagine a local advertiser booking an ad on a local TV station - would they rather get the video right or coming up with a more accurate way of measuring how many folks saw the show?

Jeff, one of the very best articles about 'making local ad money online'. Totally sums up my own local experience.

And of course you are right: 'Service(s) & education' are the main points in business development.

What I can add is that a 'one man' local news site is very hard to manage if you don't have a feeling for the acquisition of ads.

I hate to do acquisition and help (keyword: ecosystem) is very urgently needed.
